Mr. Meacham was asked by his long-time client, for whom he had executed a number of addition and remodel projects on their home in Virginia, to design a Great Room addition to their newly established West Coast home in Santa Barbara, California.

 

The project entailed estensive presentation to and review by the City of Santa Barbara Design Review Board.  Due to the location of the house on a hillside lot, the foundation for the new addition required an extraordinary structural design informed by a geotechnical investigation utilizing drilled pilings averaging more than 20 feet in length.  Significant seismic upgrades were also required throughout the house in addition to the numerous energy conservation upgrades required under the California Title 24 regulations.

 

In addition to the Great Room, a new guest bedroom/office and sitting room off the Master Bedroom were included in the addition.
